Like Oysters? Then Head for Pt. Reyes in Northern California

(Visit the famed Pt. Reyes Lighthouse, pictured above)

Did you know that Point Reyes accounts for about 20 percent of California's annual, commercial oyster crop?

The tasty mollusks are primarily farmed in Tomales Bay and Drakes Bay in the Point Reyes National Seashore area, which, in addition to oysters, is home to a variety of great vacation options.

The best place to start, when planning a trip, is Point Reyes Lodging, an association of 16 bed-and-breakfast inns and cottages located in the communities of Inverness, Olema, and Point Reyes Station.

Lodging choices are quite varied - a winery, ranches with horses, Victorian houses, lodges, and cottages.

Guests staying at a Point Reyes Lodging inn or cottage in September or October will receive a $4 coupon good towards the purchase of one dozen oysters at participating growers.

Guests are also eligible to win a Point Reyes Getaway package for two, featuring a weekday stay at a Point Reyes Lodging property and kayaking on Tomales Bay with Point Reyes Outdoors.
