San Francisco City Guides Stairway
Walks on May 5

On May 5 you will have the opportunity to participate in six stairway-based neighborhood walks as part of San Francisco City Guides month of May "Neighborhood Walks."

These guided walks are derived from the newest edition of Stairway Walks in San Francisco, by former City Guide volunteer Adah Bakalinsky. San Francisco has more than 350 stairways connecting its neighborhoods and communities, and these walks sample just a few.

Tours in Six San Francisco Neighborhoods

City Guides, in partnership with Wilderness Press, will offer simultaneous guided walking tours in six different San Francisco neighborhoods:

Fort Mason to Aquatic Park - history and Bayside scenes of the northern waterfront,
Russian Hill Stairways - spectacular homes, gardens, and magical staircases,
Telegraph Hill - sweeping Bay vistas and the celebrity wild parrots,
Eureka Valley - open spaces, butterflies, birds and a secluded garden above the city bustle,
Land's End - Sutro baths and a park walk along the coast,
Golden Gate Heights - the famous mosaic stairway and westward Pacific views.

The Walks Are Free

The free walks, led by San Francisco City Guides volunteers, will begin at 11a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., and last about two hours. Most tours have steep and strenuous components, but are taken at a relaxed pace, with the reward of spectacular views.
