Number 16 – The Right Address
in London Lodging

By George and Ninette Medovoy

If London is in your travel plans, here’s our recommendation for a wonderful little bed and breakfast Victorian in South Kensington to call your home away from home.

Number 16 also happens to be its address, and ideal location, since the hotel sits near charming boutique shopping, the West End, Chelsea and the South Kensington underground station.

Harrod’s Department Store is a leisurely 15-minute walk away, as you pass the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Museum of Natural History.

On our visit, porter Leo Esposito, a visiting Australian working his way through England, carried breakfast to our room each morning - eggs, toast, croissants, English jam, dry cereal, coffee or tea, and of course, the wonderful morning paper.

And what of the name? Is it just an address?

Well, there’s more than meets the eye.

In order to get around a city ordinance prohibiting the posting of signs on these Victorians, the establishment put up "Number 16."

After all, it IS the address!

Number Sixteen is located at 16 Sumner Place. For more information, visit www.firmdale.com or email sixteen@firmdale.com.
