Jerusalem King David Hotel Turns 75

As the legendary King David Hotel celebrates its 75th anniversary, one thing is clear: This statuesque address has earned its bragging rights.

The famous hotel in Israel's capital city of Jerusalem remains the city’s top choice for government officials, business travelers, and discerning tourists.

In honor of the anniversary, the King David is hosting a magnificent exhibition to chart its rich and textured history from 1931 to today.

Looking Back at History

Architectural explanations, historic facts, and artifacts from throughout the years are on display. Also featured are the hotel’s guest book with signatures from 1931 to 1990, serving utensils used at the beginning, an antique Zenith telephone used during the 1940s, and a chamberpot used in the guestrooms until the 1950s.
Divided into 4 main subjects, the exhibit is thoughtfully organized as follows:

The exhibition, which is free to the public, will be mounted in the public areas of the hotel for six months.

The King David is an integral part of Israel’s history. Inspired by ancient palaces and built by wealthy Egyptian Jews between 1929 and 1931, the building’s design accomplishments feature cedar-like pillars, decorated cornices, and giant wooden doors.

Since those doors opened, many impressive guests have strolled through them—including King George V; Jordan’s King Hussein; US Presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and George Bush; UK Prime Ministers Winston Churchill, Harold Wilson, Margaret Thatcher, John Major, and Tony Blair; the Prince of Wales; and Warren Buffet and physicist Steven Hawking. Over the years, the hotel has also hosted Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Dreyfus, Richard Gere, and Madonna.

Boasting 237 rooms and 27 suites, plus the top-notch French-style restaurant La Régence, the King David provides its guests with the highest level of comfort, style, and taste in Israel’s most vibrant city.
