Hungary the Setting for Central Europe Rally

The new Central Europe Rally will be launched April 20 over a challenging terrain studded with "special performance" stretches.

(The race replaces the Dakar Rally, originally a Paris-to-Dakar, Senegal race of endurance and adventure for cars, trucks and motorcycles held annually since 1979. That race was cancelled due to security concerns in Africa).

The race will begin in Budapest, Hungary on April 20 and follow a route via the steppes of eastern Hungary to the Carpathian mountains in Romania and will conclude after an almost 1900 mile run at Lake Balaton in Western Hungary. The last special performance lag of the race will take place north of Veszprem at grounds that once were premiere training grounds for the armoured divisions of the Warsaw Pact forces. The race concludes on April 26 at the picturesque lakeside resort of Balatonfüred, 80 miles west of Budapest.
