With new restaurants expected this year, taking a bite of the Big Apple has never been so delicious.

And New York City's culinary cache continues to rise in 2006 with a number of new restaurants from some of the world's top chefs.

Batali & Morimoto Battle It Out

Famed Iron Chefs Mario Batali and Masaharu Morimoto battle it out in the red-hot Meatpacking District with new restaurants on opposite sides of 10th Avenue.

Batali's Del Posto has a high-end classic Italian menu and a luxurious dining room, while Morimoto's namesake restaurant Morimoto will serve sushi dishes in a 12,000 square-foot space designed by Tadao Ando.

Other notable new Asian-inspired restaurants include Buddakhan from Angelo Sosa, and Japanese hotspot Megu opening at the Trump World Tower.

Ramsay and Robuchon Opening in New York

The euro is strong in New York City this year as Europe's most renowned chefs open restaurants in the Big Apple. Hailing from London, chef Gordon Ramsay will debut a namesake restaurant in the new London NYC hotel when it opens this fall in September or October. One of France's most renowned chefs, Joël Robuchon, plans to open an outpost of his beloved Parisian restaurant L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Classic New York City restaurant Le Cirque will reopen its doors this year after extensive renovation and relocation to the Bloomberg building. Formerly Le Cirque 2000, the new restaurant will include a main dining room, a wine bar, a lounge and private dining rooms on two levels.

Chef Tom Colicchio expands his Craft empire with Craftsteak, a new steakhouse in the Meatpacking District.

This summer New York City favorite, Junior's, will be opening an outpost of the famed Brooklyn eatery in Times Square. The 200-seat restaurant will feature the same menu items as the original location and pay tribute to Brooklyn with murals of landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge, Ebbets Field and Coney Island.
