Columbia's Hidden Gems Revleaved
On the west coast of Vancouver Island, there is a string of pristine forest-backed beaches frequented by whales and easily reached by road. It's one of the most beautiful parts of British Columbia, but it never seems to get crowded. It's the Island's southwest coast near Port Renfrew.
The cities have their secrets too. Who knew, for example, that you could find a seaside stilt village, a castle, an Edwardian garden, and a meadery (a honey wine producer) all within a short trek from Victoria? Or that, in Vancouver, you could shop for sari fabric and hot new designs, kayak through a wilderness fjord, and tempt your palate at some of Canada's hottest new restaurants -- on the same day.
All of these gems, plus a wealth of great accommodation deals, are detailed in the two newest BC Escapes guides, both available free from Tourism BC.
British Columbia Escapes: Vancouver, Victoria and Whistler has the inside scoop on the province's three best-known destinations. British Columbia Escapes: Adventures and Experiences Beyond reveals overlooked treasures in the rest of the province.
Also just out from Tourism BC are the 2007 editions of the British Columbia Vacation Planner and the British Columbia Outdoor Adventure Guide.
Free, up-to-date specialized guides on golf, sport fishing, and guest ranches, as well as detailed guides to each of the province's six tourism regions, are also available.
