Barcelona's Palau de la Musica Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Barcelona’s Palau de la Música, the city’s Modernist concert hall and UNESCO world heritage site, is celebrating its 100th anniversary with many events, art exhibitions, concerts and other cultural projects.

A variety of well-known singers and artistic groups will perform, including Bobby McFerrin and the Orfeó Català (May 9); Ravi Shankar and Anoushka Shankar (June 1); the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and the Orfeó Català with the Palau’s Chamber Choir (June 9); Sónar (June 21); the Pat Metheny Trio and Enrique Morente (July 8); the Madrid Orchestra and Choir with the Palau’s Chamber Choir (November 16); Joan Manuel Serrat (February 10, 2009), and the Royal Philharmonic of Galicia with the Orfeó Català (March 9, 2009).

For the 2007-2008 season, the regular program of the Palau’s Cycle 100 will include special concerts: the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Paavo Järvi (April 17); the China Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Long Yu (May 5) and the joint concert of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and the Orfeó Català, conducted by Frans Brüggen, featuring soprano Violet Serana Wilke, mezzo soprano Te Brummelstroete, tenor Anders J. Dahlin and baritone David Wilsons-Johnson (April 21).
